About Us

Join us in congratulating Dr. O'Connor on his appointment as Board of Health Professions to Governor Northam's Administration. The Board of Health Professions is a largely advisory body within the Department of Health Professions authorized by the General Assembly. Its statutory responsibilities are several.

The Board of Health Professions evaluates, advises, and assists in promoting coordination and resolving conflicts. The Board of Health Professions also studies matters relating to the regulation or deregulation of health care professions, and facilitates communication with the public, and reviews agency activities. The BHP also receives, reviews, and forwards to the appropriate health regulatory board any investigative reports relating to complaints of Practitioner Self-Referral Act (PSR) violation. Finally, BHP promotes the development of standards to evaluate the competency of the professions and occupations represented, and makes by laws for its own governance.
