Prostate Biopsy And Aquablation Preoperative Instructions
The time of your procedure may change. If your scheduled time changes, the facility will contact you and let you know what your new time is and when to arrive. PLEASE PLAN TO BE AVAILABLE FOR SURGERY AT ANY TIME THAT DAY
Enema
YOU MUST USE AN ENEMA (SALINE LAXATIVE FLEET) THE NIGHT BEFORE THE BIOPSY OR 2-3 HOURS BEFORE ARRIVAL TO THE HOSPITAL. A FLEET ENEMA MAY BE OBTAINED OVER-THE-COUNTER AT ANY DRUG STORE OR GROCERY STORE AND INCLUDES INSTRUCTIONS.
Diet
DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight the night before surgery. You may take medicine on the morning of surgery with a sip of water.
Clearance
If you were instructed to obtain blood work, EKG, or medical or cardiac clearance, please contact your primary care provider to schedule.
Medications
- If you are on any blood thinners, such as Eliquis (apixiban), Pradaxa (dabigatran) or warfarin (Coumadin), notify the surgery scheduler. You will need a plan from your prescribing doctor when to stop these medications before surgery and when to restart.
- If you are diabetic, please notify the surgical scheduler.
- Stop one week before surgery
- Aspirin or aspirin-like compounds
- NSAIDS such as ibuprofen, Advil, Nuprin, Motrin, Bufferin, Celebrex, Anacin
- Vitamin E, multivitamin and fish oil
- GLPD-1 agonist injections such as Weygovy, Ozempic (semiglutide), Trulicity (dulaglutide), Byetta, Bydureon (exenatide), Victoza, Saxenda (litaglutide), Mounjaro (tirzapatide)
- Stop 4 days before surgery
- Steglatro (ertugliflozin)
- Stop 3 days before surgery
- SGLT-2 inhibitors such as Invokana (canagliflozin), Farxiga (dapagliflozin), Jardiance (empagliflozin)
- Do not take the morning surgery
- GLPD-1 agonist medication by mouth such as Rybelsus (semiglutide)
- You may continue Tylenol (acetaminophen) through surgery.
Clothing
- Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing the day of surgery.
- Leave jewelry and valuables at home.
Transportation
- A responsible adult (18 years of age and older) will need to provide transportation after your procedure.
- Surgical facilities do not permit patients to take taxis or any other public transportation after procedures.
Insurance
Please contact your insurance company directly for any questions regarding coverage or payment. Our office will obtain preauthorization from your insurance company; however, preauthorization is not a guarantee of coverage or payment. It is your responsibility to determine if you have coverage.
