Blocked Pathway Help - Options
To visualize how the prostate blocks the urinary pathway, it can be helpful to use the following analogy:
Picture two bushes that initially had a space or pathway between them. Over time, the bushes have enlarged and blocked the pathway. There’s no longer any space between the bushes and it is not possible to get through the pathway easily.
There are a variety of ways the pathway can be opened.
The bushes can be trimmed away or cut back to open the space (that is what a TURP does).
The blocking portions can be melted back with a laser (that is how greenlight laser and HOLEP work).
The parts of the bushes which block the pathway can be pulled back with a string (that is what the Urolift procedure does).
The general idea of all the techniques is to open the blocked pathway.
